Nik-L-Nips are a sweet blast from the past!
Nik-L-Nips Wax Bottles have been chewed on for generations. These cute, tiny and colourful wax bottles come filled with a fruity candy tasting juice inside that is sure to bring out the kid in you again!
How will you handle this retro candy?
Nik-L-Nips Wax Bottles are an old fashion candy and were always a childhood favorite. They sort of doubled as a gum too, which was always great if you had no change left over for actual gum! After you were done drinking the syrup inside you are left with the small wax bottles which were always fun to chew on. Unless you just decide to chew the whole bottle at once. There's no right or wrong way of enjoying these Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottles.
As I recall there were always two types of Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottle eaters. The type that would bite off the top, drink the liquid and then toss the wax bottle away. Then there were the all or nothing types of Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottle eaters. Yes, the ones that just chewd the whole bottle, wax and all, and then proceeded to chew on them for hours.
The wax is food grade. It is safe for chewing but apparently not advisable for swallowing. I'm sure some of you are saying "oops" right now. I know I did! The juice inside is of course a sugary, sweet liquid coming in the cool flavours of Chillin' Cherry, O-so Orange, Hello Lemon, Blazin' Blue Raspberry, and Groovin' Green. Even the names of NIk-L-Nips flavours are cool!
Young and old alike love this retro candy. Adults love them because they are a taste of nostalgia, and kids love them because they've probably never seen anything quite like them before.
Nostalgic Candy born during Prohibition
Nik-L-Nips Wax Bottles first came out in the early 1900's, during the time of prohibition. The timing sort of makes sense. This would have made these little wax bottles all the more appealing. Their name implies the cost of the candy at the time, 5 cents, and the way you were to open the bottles by nipping off the top of the bottle with your teeth.
Have you tried other wax candy?
Wax candies are sort of a novelty although contrary to popular belief they are not completely tasteless. Even the Wack-O-Wax Wax Lips
have a sweet tasting flavour in the wax, and upon chewing them you get the sweet taste of cherry! They were always great to chew, all that red cherry tasting wax! The Wack-O-Wax Wax Lips, Wack-O-Wax Fangs
and Wack-O-Wax Mr. Stache
are even ideal for some shameless selfies! Plus they'll make everyone laugh. Also great for a gag gift, or fun at a party. Buy some for everyone!
If your a child of the 70's or 80's you might remember frequently finding these over sized wax lips tossed in your Halloween bag. One was either very enthused, or quickly tried to trade them for other goodies. I also remember getting them in birthday party loot bags as well. Wack-O-Wax Wax Lips have now become a very popular prop for those photo booths that you might find at a wedding or party. Where ever you come across them they're always a great source of laughter, entertainment and fun, and if you happen to like chewing on flavored wax, well then their absolutely perfect!
Nik-L-Nips Wax Bottles are mysterious
Upon researching the Nik-L-Nips Wax Bottles, I found it nearly impossible to find out any recorded history such as the exact year and the person who originally thought up the idea of Nik-L-Nips. It seems nearly impossible to track down the Nik-L-Nips origins. But kudos to the inventor of this fun filled retro candy! It has proven to be a sweet source of fun for every generation. This old school candy certainly brings back some sweet memories. The least we can do is introduce it to the new candy loving youngins'! And let ourselves indulge again too!
