With that being said, we know how much people love dressing up as iconic film characters for Halloween, so we decided to compile a list of popular horror flicks and their corresponding candies!
If you’re struggling to complete your Halloween costume or simply want some insidious inspiration, then keep reading!
1. Nightmare Before Christmas
How could we create a Halloween Candy Pairings list without including this Tim Burton classic! For this 1993 stop-motion animated film, we paired it with its very own candy figurines!
The Nightmare Before Christmas Pop Ups Lollipops gives candy lovers and fans of the film a delicious treat to enjoy. You can place your lollipop inside these figures and use them as you open and close the figurine to indulge in the sweet candy.
Our pairing is pretty self-explanatory with the candy being directly made from the animated film. This treat is a great way to add characters to your costume, so if you plan to go as Jack Skellington, you can carry Sally Shock as your date all night long.
2. Scream
What’s your favourite scary movie? Fortunately, we ask that sincerely and not with the same intentions as Ghostface.
This 1996 classic slasher movie has had many adaptations since its release, but I think we can all agree you can’t compete with the original. When it was time to choose a candy to pair with this film, we decided to go with Warheads Sour Lollipops.
We think the face the Warheads character's making is pretty similar to Ghostfaces’ mask, and Scream will pretty much have your face looking like that for all 1 hour and 51 minutes of the film.
3. Saw
Our third candy pairing is between Saw (2004) and Vidal Missing Body Parts. Since the premise of this horror film is pretty gruesome and gory, it only made sense to pair it with a bag full of dismembered gummy body parts.
From bones and brains to eyes, you can enjoy an assortment of fruity flesh candy. If you’re throwing a Halloween party, it would be a pretty good idea to have these gummies floating around in a punch bowl so it looks like a bunch of severed body parts floating around in blood… quite gruesome but very fitting.
4. Beetlejuice
We only have to say his name once for you to know who we’re talking about. Beetlejuice (1988) is a cult classic horror comedy leaving you in stitches almost immediately!
When we had to decide which candy to pair with this iconic movie, we had to go with the Boston America Beetlejuice candy tin. We think this choice speaks for itself. If you're a fan of the film, then you're sure to enjoy the sweet candies inside this spooky tin!
Now you can enjoy this candy tin as you watch the recent reboot of this classic film. Nothing is sweeter than pairing Jenna Ortega with a box of Beetlejuice sweets!
5. Addams FamilySink your fangs into the Haribo Vampire gummies as you watch the Addams Family (1991).
The iconic family has long been synonymous with the season of Halloween with their eerie essence, and loveable quirkiness! A common misconception of the quirk-centric family is that they are vampires, but they are actually just humans with a love for the darker things in life. Although this may be a common error, we’ve used it to our advantage when it came to pairing this movie with Haribo candy!
So whether or not you’re a fan of the Addams Family, you can be sure the Haribo gummies will have you feeling satisfied all Halloween season long!
6. Hocus Pocus
By now I think we all know who the Sanderson sisters are (especially since there was a reboot last year for the younger gen!) But if you’re still unfamiliar with these witchy sisters, let us give you a quick recap on what's what.
Hocus Pocus (1993) is set in 1693 Salem, Massachusetts where three witches, the Sanderson sisters, are in search of their next victim to preserve their youth. This eventually leads to their demise once the townsfolk decide to capture them for eternity.
So it was a no-brainer to pair this classic Halloween film with Pez Candy Witch. This delicious candy treat is a great prop to use on Halloween night if you've run out of creative costume ideas. Just grab a pointy hat, two of these Pez candy sticks and say you're one of the Sanderson sisters!
7. Halloweentown
Since its release, this Disney Channel original movie quickly became a Halloween staple among little candy goblins everywhere!
Halloweentown (1998) may be a kids' movie, but it's surprisingly spooky when you rewatch it as an adult; that scene in the theatre never fails to freak me out. Regardless, this movie, at its core, is lighthearted and centers around the relationship between grandparents, mothers & their kids.
This is why we chose to pair this comfort movie with Little Debbies Brownie Pumpkins! Nothing says comforting grandmother like baking a sheet of brownies with nana on a crisp autumn evening. The pumpkin theme was also a big deciding factor since Halloweentown is known for its giant pumpkin in the middle of the town square.
8. Coraline
Coraline (2009), a stop-motion animation, took the horror genre by storm when it released this eerie children’s film. I think we can all recall how spooked we were when we saw the button-eyed parents – especially when things started to take a darker turn.
Our rationale for pairing this film with Junior Mints candy (special edition for spooky season, of course) was simply because the packaging resembles the movie poster. You have the Junior Mints round white background that resembles the full moon Coraline is walking in front of, and the creepy curly branches of the tree surrounding them.
9. Ghostbusters
Who are you gonna call?? This mega-popular 1984 film has surely left its mark on the film industry and Halloween enthusiasts all over the world! All you need to see is a pair of grey jumpsuits with an outrageous gun, and you’ll instantly recognize the costume.
We know how stressful it can be to find the right costume, so if you’re planning to dress up as the Ghostbusters, then you’re going to need the Ghostbusters Light & Sound Candy Wand to complete the entire look!
Ride around town on the ECTO-1 as the Ghostbusters theme plays through the toy speakers, all while enjoying a few bites of the candy inside the stick.
10. Carrie
Pairing the classic film Carrie (1976) with the Power Poppers Sour Jelli creates an epic Halloween costume that's all about fun and scares!
In the film, Carrie's iconic prom scene is an unforgettable moment in the horror genre. Her blood-soaked appearance is instantly recognizable. By adding the Sour Jelli candy to your costume, you can add a fun and interactive element to your portrayal of Carrie.
Apply it on your costume or even your face for a realistic, gruesome effect that will shock and delight fellow Halloween goers. Drip it on liberally, and watch as your friends gasp and giggle at your spooky transformation. It's a blend of classic horror and playful sweetness that guarantees a Halloween to remember!
Well, there you have it Halloween fanatics, you can now enjoy some satisfyingly sweet candies while watching these classic horror films this Spooky Season!
Let us know if you agree with our pairings! Did we leave out any horror classics? Are you planning to dress up as any of the characters from the mentioned films?
