Everybody loves a party! Parties are fun and whether you're celebrating friends, family, a job or a holiday, you want everyone to have a good time. Music, games, people and of course… candy is a must! What better way to bring candy to a party than with a Piñata? Originally a Chinese tradition, the Piñata slowly spread to Europe and eventually became a part of Mexican culture. Typically used in Latino communities to celebrate birthday parties, Christmas and Cinco de Mayo celebrations, Piñatas are now used worldwide for all celebrations. But what do you put in your Piñata? Over the years fruits and candies such as guavas, oranges, pieces of sugar cane, and wrapped candies were used. Nowadays, candy is the go to option. Still not sure what to include though? Not to worry, here is our guide to the best candy for your Piñata!
1. Lollipops
Lollipops are classic! individually wrapped and available in a whole range of colours they are perfect for your Piñata. Every kid likes lollipops, and their size and flavour range is a great way to diversify the candy at your party. With a whole collection of flavours that are straight out of your childhood, like birthday cake, rainbow, and fruit flavours, they’re an excellent option! So what lollipops should you look for? Dum Dums and Kerr's Original Sour Pops are our go to party lollipops. They check every box and offer both a sweet and sour option for your party guests.
2. Gum
Everybody loves bubblegum! Bubble gum has and always will be one of the funnest candies you can play with. Every child remembers the first time they managed to successfully blow a bubble and most adults still blow bubbles absentmindedly today. That’s why we recommend getting an assorted package for your Piñata! Dubble Bubble, Hubba Bubba and Bazooka are great choices. They’re available in their original packaging with a fun comic or in an assorted package with several flavour options. An easy addition to your Piñata, these candies will survive even when the Piñata does not.
3. Sour Candy
Sour candies are a must! While most people are a fan of sweet or savoury, every once in a while we crave something sour! Warheads are great for Piñatas. They’re individually wrapped in bright, colourful packaging and come in some deliciously sour flavours. Small and easy to add, they’re sure to tickle one of your party goers' taste buds! Not a fan of Warheads? Try Toxic Waste Hazardously Sour Candies, some argue they’re even more sour than Warheads. You’ll just have to let your guests decide.
4. Sweet Candy
In every Piñata you need sweet candy! However, how do you decide what type of sweets to use? With an infinite number of options we recommend staying away from hard candies and opting for sweet chewy candy such as Frooties and Mike & Ikes! Made by Tootsie, Frooties are soft, chewy, bite-sized candy made in a variety of fruit flavours! Mike and Ikes come in their own little boxes that are great for sharing and indulging in once the games are over. They’re perfect for satisfying those sweet tooths at your party. Available as bulk packages, adding some sweets to your Piñata has never been so easy.
5. Chocolate
Chocolate is a great way to break up the tastes within your Piñata. Reese's Thins Milk Chocolate and Hershey Kisses are excellent picks. It’s not a party without chocolate! Let your guests savour these delicious chocolates in between all the candy options. Wrapped individually, these chocolates are unlikely to melt and ruin the other candy inside (remember to keep your Piñata out of the sun and away from warm spaces).
Ready to stuff your Piñata? The number one thing to look for is individually wrapped candy. Everyone wants to be able to grab a handful of sweets they can take home and enjoy later. You’ll want to avoid chips and snacks that could be crushed in the game. Secondly you want to look for smaller treats! Smaller candies fit better inside of the Piñata and allow you to fill it with more treats to go around. You want to make sure you have enough for everyone, and sticking to the smaller candies ensures everyone gets a handful. Lastly, you want variety! In our list we suggest a selection of lollipops, gum, sweets, sour candies and chocolates! Everyone has different tastes so it’s more fun when your Piñata has a selection of different treats. Remember you know your guests, so feel free to tailor this list to you and your guests taste buds!
