Okay, that’s like 3 things… But we have a whole lot of each! And when you get into snacking philosophy like, “What IS a chip?” “Where is the line drawn between salty snack types?” "Is chocolate candy?" and “How much fizz is needed before juice becomes pop?”, we do WAY more than 3 things!
Today, we’re going to focus on one of our "three" things: Chips!
Well, chips and other salty snacks. Because after all, what IS a chip?
Is a Pringle a chip? Definitely!
Is a Frito a chip? It’s a corn chip, sure, but ya, most would say so.
Is a pretzel a chip? Did you hesitate? That one always splits the room. Even our Candyologists can’t agree on that one!
For today’s Top 10 list, our Candyologists have put together their favourite chips (and chip-adjacent non-nut salty snacks)!
Whether the snack technically counts as a chip is secondary to the most important criteria for the list: How delicious is it? And let me tell you, they’re all amazingly delicious!

Some of our Candyologists aren’t partial to black pepper on chips normally, but these Pringles definitely changed some minds! Despite the word ‘pepper’ on the package, the heat is nice, warm and mellow, and the citrus cuts down any sharpness that might creep up on even the most spice averse.

Squid Game Spicy Seafood Chips (Korea)
Spicier than the season 3 finale!
Squid Game Spicy Seafood Chips pack an intense hit of heat and satisfying seafood flavour!
The flavour of these chips are based on Jjamppong, a spicy Korean seafood noodle soup. Even though these chips were a liiittle bit too spicy for some of our Candyologists, they couldn’t deny how tasty they were (once their eyes stopped watering)!

Okay, okay, last Pringles, I promise.

Lay's Dried Pickled Mustard Chips (China)
If you want wacky, wild, and weird, you found it!
Lay’s Dried Pickled Mustard Chips from China are by far the most exotic flavour on our list!
Full disclosure, just between us, the Candyologists don’t know I’m putting this here. This spot was supposed to go to Doritos Cup Style Grilled Taco Chips, which are perfectly good and fun, but I feel like I would be doing you a personal disservice by not including this incredible Lay’s chip on our list!
When the Candyologists were tasting the chips trying to find the top 10 for this list, this was far and away the most polarizing. Some really liked it, some really hated it, but I LOVED IT!
Small peek behind the curtain: my favourite chips are plain. Potatoes, salt, and oil; that’s my favourite. I like and appreciate flavoured chips just fine, don’t get me wrong, but when I’m shopping, Original is what I’m putting in my cart nine times out of ten.
In testing, I had my eyes opened and my views on flavour shaken by the Loaded Skins and Street Corn, but nothing could have prepared me for the revelation these chips would bring. It was like my own Anton Ego ratatouille moment.
The gentle warmth of the mustard greens, the tangy bite of the pickling vinegar, the crispy crunch of the cracker-like chip, and even more flavours I couldn’t identify. All working together in perfect harmony to create a chip that tastes like it was made just for me!
There is nothing on this list I want to recommend to you more than this! It is truly unlike anything else you’ve ever had. I could compare it to dill pickle or salt and vinegar, but that would be like comparing Wagyu beef to minute-steaks. If there is one thing on this list that you decide to try, I hope it’s this!
The rest of our Lay's Collection is exciting and exotic too, but this chip takes the cake.
