A Creamy Classic Says Goodbye: Neilson Jersey Milk Bars Are Being Discontinued

A Creamy Classic Says Goodbye: Neilson Jersey Milk Bars Are Being Discontinued

If you grew up in Canada, chances are you’ve unwrapped a creamy, white-and-gold Neilson Jersey Milk Bar at least once in your life. Maybe it came from your grandma’s candy jar, your Halloween stash, or the corner store around the block. That thick square of smooth milk chocolate was simple, classic, and always hit the spot.

But now, it’s time to say goodbye. 💔

The Neilson Jersey Milk Bar is being discontinued.

A Taste of True Canadian Nostalgia 🇨🇦🍫

Introduced in the early 20th century, Jersey Milk was one of the OGs of Canadian chocolate. Its rich, velvety taste and recognizable retro packaging made it a standout — not flashy, not filled with caramel or crunch, just pure creamy milk chocolate at its finest.

For many, it was the first chocolate bar they ever tried. For others, it was the one they'd always circle back to when newer candies just didn’t hit the same.

Why Is It Being Discontinued?

The official reason? Cadbury (its current parent company) hasn’t released a full explanation — but like many other discontinuations of Canadian favourites in recent years like Cherry Blossom, it likely comes down to manufacturing shifts, ingredient costs, and the ever-changing candy aisle.

Whatever the reason — it doesn’t make this bittersweet goodbye any easier.

Stock Up While You Still Can

We know this news is a bummer — which is why we’ve stocked up while supplies last. If Jersey Milk is your go-to, your comfort candy, or just something you want to taste one last time, don’t wait.

Because once they’re gone… that’s it.

What Is the History of Jersey Milk?

The Neilson Jersey Milk Bar was first introduced in the early 20th century by the Neilson Dairy Company, based in Ontario, Canada. Known for its premium milk products, Neilson brought that same commitment to quality into the world of chocolate.

Jersey Milk quickly earned a reputation for being luxuriously creamy — a true milk chocolate experience unlike any other on the market. Over time, Cadbury acquired the brand but kept the recipe and look mostly intact. That retro wrapper? It hasn’t changed much since your parents were kids.

It’s a Chocolate Time Capsule

Jersey Milk is one of those rare treats that never chased trends. It stayed simple, nostalgic, and comforting. While others loaded up on caramel or reinvented themselves with new fillings, Jersey Milk quietly stayed the course — and that’s what made it special.

Sad to here that the old faithful Jersey Milk bar is history now. Possibly Canadian soldiers in WWII were given these. Their American counterparts were issued Hershey bars. I had an American cousin that really liked the Neilsons chocolate. She was born ad raised in Canada, so she always sought out some Neilsons on short visits back to Canada. I myself liked their version of the Rollo round chocolate and caramel. It tasted better, I hope they don’t call the changes progress..

Back when I was 10 or so….I bought a $0.10 Jersey Milk chocolate bar on Saturdays. That’s right: Ten Cents. It was 1968? 1970?… I cleaned and polished my dad’s shoes every Friday night for .$0.10 per shoe. This was paid to me on Saturday with my $0.50 allowance which I spent at the corner store (2 mile walk!) or at the Saturday movie matinee . I ALWAYS bought a Jersey Milk and still love them and I’m so sad they’re gone. Please don’t stop making them.
