The year was 1897, and he joined forces with candy maker John C. Wharton. Together they came up with a machine that could heat up sugar in a spinning bowl, thus creating its fluffy and floss-like texture. This pair debuted their creation at the World's Fair in 1908, making cotton candy a popular treat.
